Jewish History II
Ok I am taking Jewish Histroy II...
And I want to make this site have a point rather than just garbage....
so...
Here I go pouring my notes into something that may come to use to others and in turn I hope others post their knowledge, or even better add to mine!
here goes
the one problem is I used tags to create the notes (like spoiler tags.. I used list tags to create the A -1 -a effect) so when you try to copy paste it into ms word it doesnt go properly... you can print them by right clicking the post... it goes ok...

Re: Jewish History II
I hope I didnt miss anything... the first few classes were random talks of what we were going to learn though I may have missed something... I am not perfect...
I Transitions from medieval to modern period
A-Religion in medieval
Primary relationships to christians: mostly Economic
B- Turning Points:
the idea of a secular state with freedom and religion not being the primary power became a popular thought
The rabbonim authority is lessened
Shabsi Tzvi claims to be the false mashiach during this era, many people fell to this and there are still a few today who believe he is the massiah
Great decline in spirituality religion was no longer the main driving focus in a jews everyday life or anyones life for that matter, even a christians
A world centered on man rather than God spawned
Reforms spawne4d and began to change actual Torah itslef
Slowly the ghetto walls fall down and the jews become exposed to the outside world as it entered their lives
The outside world went from not effecting jews to totally effecting them
I Transitions from medieval to modern period
A-Religion in medieval
- At that time the rabbis reigned supreme and had full authority - enforcing power by putting people in 'charem' and stuff of the like..
- Priority was religion
- jews were not defined by surroundings -whether you were from germany or poland... a jew was a jew
- we were considered aliens in every land
- we were put in ghettos and were seperated with restrictions
- Seen as a coorporate entity by kings and others and were taxed as a whole
- Things costed more for the jews
B- Turning Points:
- certain rulers tried teaching social stuff to jews
- 1791 - jews were granted citizenship in france after French Revolution
- Identity becomes more of where you are from whether its Germany or poland...
- jews get unrestricted access
- ghettos slowly dissapear
- Spoiler:
- I will finish later
